Kazmierczak, 56, was convicted for this attack that occurred amid the immigration crisis in Minnesota. Prosecutors had requested a 14-month prison sentence for him. Additionally, he was sentenced to three years of supervised release, which includes a prohibition on contacting Omar. U.S. officers escorted him out of the courthouse after the session.

In a previous session, Kazmierczak failed to provide a convincing explanation for his actions and told the judge that his memories were unclear. Witnesses reported that he stood up from the crowd and sprayed a liquid from a syringe at Omar, stating that she "divides Minnesota in two." Omar's security officers quickly tackled him to the ground and then handed him over to the police.
Omar was not harmed in the incident and continued with the meeting after Kazmierczak's arrest. She later sent a message to Omar apologizing and taking responsibility for his actions. Authorities later determined that the sprayed liquid was a mixture of water and apple cider vinegar.
According to court documents, Kazmierczak had mentioned in several text messages to his friends that he intended to take action at the public meeting but did not respond to their questions about his intentions. He also sent messages to his neighbor to arrange for the care of his dog and to contact a bail bonding company.
Kazmierczak has long struggled with alcohol abuse issues and also has a history of mental and emotional concerns. He has also been diagnosed with Parkinson's disease.
The attack on Omar occurred while the "Metrorush" operation was underway, during which more than 2000 immigration officers were present in the Twin Cities, leading to numerous protests and arrests.
