Emmanuel Macron, the President of France, announced that the country is striving to secure oil supply and reduce pressure on fuel prices. These remarks were made in light of recent tensions in energy markets and are particularly significant as fuel prices are on the rise.
Dialogue with Regional Officials
Macron stated in a post on the American social media platform X: "When oil prices are under pressure, pump prices go up. I know what this means for the people of France." He also mentioned that after discussions with Ali Al-Fahd Al-Zaydi, the Prime Minister of Iraq, he has spoken with Mohammed bin Salman, the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, and Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Emir of Qatar.

Macron emphasized that the main priority is to restore freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, protect the energy infrastructure of trading partners, and ensure oil production. He added: "Ensuring our oil supply is essential" and stated that France is cooperating with its coalition partners regarding freedom of navigation in this strategic waterway.
Efforts to Reduce Dependence on the Strait of Hormuz
Macron also highlighted the importance of opening alternative routes to reduce dependence on the Strait of Hormuz and enhance oil supply security. He said: "More routes for oil mean less dependence. Less dependence means more security, and more security means less pressure on prices."
The increase in fuel prices globally, and especially in France, has been sharply felt in recent weeks due to disruptions caused by the conflict in the Middle East. Gasoline and diesel prices have reached their highest levels. The Houthi group in Yemen, which has been at war with government forces since July, has recently made advances and taken control of Bab al-Mandab, a crucial narrow strait for Saudi oil exports. This situation, especially following Iran's restrictions on transportation through the Strait of Hormuz, has raised further concerns in the oil market.
