In August, battery electric vehicles accounted for over 30 percent of new car registrations in key European markets. This figure represents a year-on-year increase of 54.2 percent.

Battery electric vehicles (BEVs) accounted for over 30 percent of total new car registrations in 16 major European markets in August of this year. According to a report released on Thursday, a total of 202,833 battery electric vehicles were registered in these markets, indicating a year-on-year increase of 54.2 percent.

Significant growth in electric vehicle registrations

The share of BEVs in total new car registrations in the covered markets was 30.5 percent, and according to estimates, this share has reached 31.2 percent across the European Union. From January to August, BEV registrations reached 1.67 million vehicles, showing a 33.1 percent increase compared to last year. The market share of this category of vehicles in these eight months reached 22.5 percent.

Leadership of Germany and France in the electric vehicle market

Germany and France are recognized as leaders in the expansion of the electric vehicle market in Europe. France registered 36,159 fully electric vehicles in August, with the market share of these vehicles reaching 38.3 percent, an increase of 72.2 percent compared to last year. Germany also accounted for 68,980 BEV registrations, capturing a market share of 32.5 percent, with registrations increasing by 34.5 percent compared to last year.

Other countries like Norway and Denmark have also made progress in this area. In Norway, BEVs make up 98.7 percent of new car registrations, while this figure is 85.9 percent in Denmark and 52.3 percent in Finland. The Netherlands has also joined this trend with a market share of 48.9 percent.

Belgium, with a share of 46.2 percent, and Portugal, with 36.1 percent of registrations, are recognized as other successful countries in adopting electric vehicles. This report includes 16 European countries that account for nearly 90 percent of the car market in the European Union and the European Free Trade Association.
