The Trump administration is trying to persuade Republican senators to support the cryptocurrency bill. This bill requires the backing of at least 60 senators to progress.

The Trump administration has introduced an interactive tool to advance a bill that divides oversight of digital assets between the SEC and CFTC. This tool allows users to "adjust parameters, run scenarios, and see for themselves" why the Council of Economic Advisers (CEA) previously concluded that "there is no meaningful relationship between the growth of stablecoins and the flight of deposits from local banks."

Efforts to Address Banking Concerns

The aim of this initiative is to counter banking groups that announced on Monday that recent changes to the bill were not sufficient to ease their concerns regarding stablecoin regulations. Several Republican lawmakers, including Senator John Cornyn from Texas, have indicated they may vote against the banks on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, pro-cryptocurrency Democrats are dissatisfied with the extent of the limitations the new text imposes on President Donald Trump. Senator Cornyn stated, "I’m not sure [the new text] addresses the issues I’m concerned about, which are the concerns of local bankers."

Future of the Bill and Political Reactions

The bill requires the support of at least 60 senators to move forward. The new CEA website will also include FAQs about its previous report and responses to its critics. Patrick Witte, Executive Director of the President’s Council on Digital Assets, stated, "The CEA analysis is clear: the data simply does not support the narrative of deposit flight that banking lobbyists in Washington are promoting regarding stablecoin rewards."

Some House Democrats are also worried that the leading cryptocurrency PACs may not spend in their electoral races, even though they had previously supported this bill. Senator John Thune also said, "A week ago, I would have said this situation didn’t look good, but we’ll see if that has changed."

The cryptocurrency industry is awaiting a vote to deploy tens of millions of dollars in campaign spending. This funding appears to be less than in previous cycles, given the limited time remaining until the midterm elections and the small number of Senate Democrats facing tough races.
