Turkish Airlines and Air China have expanded their codeshare cooperation to provide passengers access to more destinations through their hubs. This agreement was signed on Thursday during the opening ceremony of the fourth China Air Transport Conference and Exhibition in Beijing.
Details of the New Agreement
The two companies, both members of the Star Alliance, will begin their codeshare cooperation in June 2024, initially covering flights between Istanbul and Beijing. With the expansion of this agreement, all direct flights between Turkey and China, as well as some domestic services in China and international connections through Istanbul, will now be covered.
New Destinations for Passengers
Passengers of Turkish Airlines can travel to six new destinations in mainland China via Beijing: Shenzhen, Chongqing, Xiamen, Hangzhou, Nanjing, and Qingdao. On the other hand, Air China passengers can access Ankara and selected destinations in Africa and Latin America via Istanbul.
African destinations include Accra, Lagos, Morocco, Dar es Salaam, Algiers, and Tunis, while Latin American connections include Cancun and Mexico City.
New Travel Opportunities
This expanded cooperation allows passengers to book connecting flights on a single ticket, providing more options for travel between China, Turkey, and onward destinations. The two airlines stated that their goal is to strengthen connections and transfer opportunities between the hubs of Beijing and Istanbul.
Turkish Airlines and Air China also intend to add any new direct routes launched between Turkey and China to their codeshare cooperation.
