Istanbul Airport (IGA Istanbul Airport) opened its fourth main runway on Thursday, measuring 2,820 meters in length and 45 meters in width. This runway, aligned with the east-west axis, increases the total capacity of this air hub to six runways. Abdulkadir Uraloğlu, Turkey's Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, stated that Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, the President of Turkey, will attend the inauguration ceremony of this new runway.
Details of the New Runway
The new runway at Istanbul Airport, being the first runway aligned with the east-west axis, can reduce taxiing and flight turnaround times, especially for domestic flights and eastern routes. This allows the airport to save on fuel consumption and time, while also increasing its operational flexibility, even in adverse weather conditions. Minister Uraloğlu added that this runway will help improve on-time flight rates.
