General Anton Grinous, commander of the 4th Motorized Guard Brigade of Russia, was killed in the Ukraine war. This incident occurred just two and a half weeks after he was awarded the title of Hero of Russia. Grinous had reported to Russian President Vladimir Putin in early July that the eastern Ukrainian city of Kostiantynivka had been captured by Russian forces.

At that time, Putin remarked about Grinous: "A man with a Latvian name, born in Kazan, fights remarkably." However, according to information from Ukrainian officials and Western military observers, the city is still not fully under Russian control.
General Grinous received the honorary title of Hero of Russia on August 27. However, the exact details of his death are still unclear, but sources in Moscow and Kyiv have pointed to heavy Ukrainian attacks on Russian positions in the occupied Luhansk and Donetsk regions over the weekend.
