Timothy J. Riggle, a 20-year-old man from Wellsville, Ohio, attacked two officers from the Columbiana County Sheriff's Office on Monday after receiving a one-year prison sentence in a separate case. A recently released video shows the moment Riggle frees himself from his handcuffs, strikes one of the officers, and runs towards the courthouse exit.

In the video, one of the officers is seen escorting Riggle down a hallway after his sentencing. Suddenly, Riggle manages to free himself from his handcuffs and strikes the officer. He then quickly runs towards the courthouse exit. During this, he collides with another officer and knocks him to the ground.
After the incident, Riggle runs towards the courthouse exit and is seen in the video tumbling down the stairs and running towards the entrance door. Eventually, he is stopped using a taser and is taken back into custody. The video also shows people rushing to assist the injured officers.
Consequences and Aftermath
After the incident, one officer is seen on the ground bleeding from the head and using a tissue to stop his bleeding. Riggle had recently been sentenced to one year in prison in a case dated February 14, 2025. He had pleaded guilty in July to charges including robbery with threat, aggravated assault, severe threat, failure to cooperate, and two counts of misdemeanor criminal charges.
Columbiana County Sheriff Brian McLaughlin stated that Riggle is currently being held in the Columbiana County Jail and will be transferred to state prison in the future. He is also awaiting potential new charges related to the courthouse incident, which will likely include assaulting a police officer and escaping from custody.
