Turkey's Trade Minister, Ömer Bolat, announced on Thursday that the 'Made in the EU' approach should be considered with Turkey in mind due to the deep integration of this country's production with the European Union. He added on the Turkish social platform NSosyal that Turkey is an integral part of Europe's supply chains.
Importance of Production Integration
Bolat stated: "We will emphasize the importance of implementing the 'Made in the EU' approach in a way that considers Turkey and our production integration within the customs union framework." These remarks come as Turkey and the European Union have had a customs union agreement since 1995, which has significantly impacted the trade relations between the two parties.
New Steps in Economic Relations with Italy
The Turkish Trade Minister pointed to the importance of establishing stronger trade and economic relations with Italy, stating: "We are taking another important step towards a shared future for Turkish and European industries." He added that Turkey has a significant share in Europe's supply chains in areas such as automotive, machinery, home appliances, defense, and aviation. Bolat expressed his hope for positive outcomes from Turkey's interactions with Italy.
Bolat is set to meet with Antonio Tajani, Italy's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, in Rome on Friday to discuss the 'Made in the EU' approach and the need to update the customs union agreement between Turkey and the EU.
