Vladimir Putin, the President of Russia, announced in a video speech on Wednesday that the upcoming parliamentary elections should contribute to Russia's victory in the war against Ukraine and showcase national unity. In this speech, he stated: "Participation in the elections is our collective contribution to Russia's victory."
Election Details and Predictions
The Russian parliamentary elections will be held from September 18 to 20. Over 110 million eligible voters will participate in these elections to select 450 new members of the State Duma in Moscow. However, due to the ban on opposition participation, the results are expected to favor Putin. After the disqualification of the anti-war party Yabloko, 10 Kremlin-loyal parties will be present on the ballot.
The ruling party, United Russia, which is almost certain to win the elections, will participate along with four other loyal parties currently represented in parliament. This election will also be the first time it is held in the Ukrainian regions annexed by Russia, including Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporizhia, and Kherson, which faces opposition from Ukraine.

Russian officials clearly believe that participation in these elections can help boost national morale and support for soldiers on the front lines of the war. Putin also emphasized that he hopes the "most suitable candidates" will win in these elections. According to reports from the election commission, around 2200 elections at various levels of government are being held, including elections for local parliamentary representatives in eight regions.

Given that opposition parties have been barred from participating in these elections, there are worries about democracy and human rights in Russia.
